Office 365 vs Google Apps?

$

I wanted to share a recent guest post by the CEO of Champion Solutions Group on behalf of Sanjeevini Mittal on how customers find Office 365 vs Google Apps. What is your experience?

championToday’s guest blogger is Chris Pyle, president and CEO of Champion Solutions Group, an award-winning Microsoft Gold partner that helps small and medium enterprises develop cloud strategies and deploy cloud solutions. Founded in 1979, Champion has 22 offices in 11 states and is the parent company for MessageOps, which focuses exclusively on helping customers move seamlessly to the Microsoft Cloud. The two companies have helped hundreds of customers migrate to Office 365.

At Champion Solutions Group, we focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that range from about 250 to 2500 seats. We have helped hundreds of business, education and government customers migrate a total of about 700,000 seats to Office 365. As part of our work, we have helped many customers migrate to Office 365 from Google Apps, including several who previously had left Microsoft for Google.

In working with our customers, we focus on operational efficiencies, making sure the organizations that adopt the Office 365 platform really make the most of it. Just because you migrate to Office 365 doesn’t mean you’re done. That’s Day One. There’s still Day Two (how you set everything up) and Day Three (how you collaborate and leverage the power of Office 365). We help our customers with all three stages.

Why customers choose Office 365 over Google Apps:  For organizations that switch from Google Apps to Office 365, the number one reason is that they find Office 365 is easier to use and offers greater productivity than Google Apps. Because it is enterprise-grade and much more business-focused than anything Google can offer, customers also say that Office 365 is more robust than Google Apps.

As an example, one of our customers is a large grocery chain on the East Coast, with more than 10,000 users in many different locations. When the company decided to abandon Google Apps and adopt Office 365, the top two reasons were the usability and robustness of Office 365. In fact, one of the main reasons the company finally decided to switch to Office 365 was that employees complained so much about Google Apps. They said it was very cumbersome and didn’t work for them. They just didn’t find Google Apps as productive as Office 365.

Choice is another important factor for many organizations when they are considering different cloud solutions. When we ask our customers why they choose Microsoft over Google Apps, many say that having a choice of cloud, on-premise or hybrid solutions gives them the flexibility to meet their business needs. With Google, the cloud is the only option. Customers like having a productivity solution they can tailor to their business.

Office 365 is more cost-effective than Google Apps:  There’s an immediate cost benefit to customers who choose a cloud solution. They save money on the initial capital outlay, and they can convert those savings to operational investments, but the cost-effectiveness of any solution is about more than the initial price tag.

When customers are choosing a cloud solution, they ask questions about productivity, security, and how well it works. Microsoft provides positive answers to all of those questions. In our experience, the productivity suite that Microsoft delivers with Office 365, compared to Google Apps, makes it the “right way” for most organizations.  Over the long term, Office 365 is often the most cost-effective choice.

The bottom line:  What we offer our customers when we help them migrate to Office 365 is a way to transform how they work, to innovate, and to come up with better ways to make a difference to their customers. Once our customers begin to understand and use the full capabilities of Office 365, they report a significant increase in productivity, with their employees doing a tremendous amount of work from almost any location, on any of their devices, and being much more collaborative.

Hi Team,

I updated my Microsoft office 2010 to Office 2013. When I opened Outlook 2013 for the first time after installing, all my emails were gone as well as the folders in Outlook 2010. How do I get all the emails and possibly the folders in Outlook 2010.  Outlook  2013 works perfectly fine but needs all my old emails.

Will appreciate any kind help.

Thanks

Hello,

We are a small company using WindowsServer2008R2 Enterprise software for our file server. Users are using Microsoft Office 2010 on Windows 7 Professional. All users have similar permissions.

When I open a file from file server on my computer, and edit -> save -> close it, after that neither me nor other users are able to open the file. We all get error "Access Denied. Contact your administrator".

Note that if OTHER users do the same (i.e. open a file from file server on my computer, and edit -> save -> close it), we dont get the same error. We all are easily able to open the file.

Please suggest a solution urgently.

Thanks

Greeting

My users are attempting to us a new feature in MS project. In order for them to have this new feature I need to get them into the monthly update channel.

I ran the follwoing commands

1. Launch a Command Prompt as an Administrator.
2. Navigate to “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun”
3. To change your setting type: “OfficeC2RClient.exe /changesetting Channel=Current”
4. To implement the change and start the Channel switch process, run “OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user” from the same path. This will initiate office updates download based on the channel you are switching to.

and got my system and 3 of my 5 users to update, but 2 remained in the semi annual channel.

I tried these

  1. Identify the channel which you would like to switch to. Features and updates by channel are documented
  2. Launch Command Prompt as an administrator.
  3. Navigate to “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun\”
  4. Run the following command to change the desired channel, let’s say Monthly Channel Targeted “OfficeC2RClient.exe /changesetting Channel=Insiders

or if you want to switch to the Montly channel:

OfficeC2RClient.exe /changesetting Channel=Monthly

Note – You can use this command to switch to any channel using the corresponding Channel keyword listed below:

ChannelKeyword in CMD or ODT
Monthly Channel (Targeted)  Channel=”Insiders” or Channel=”FirstReleaseCurrent
  Monthly Channel  Channel=”Monthly” or Channel=”Current
  Semi-annual Channel (Targeted)  Channel=”Targeted” or Channel=”FirstReleaseDeferred
  Semi-annual Channel

  Channel=”Broad” or Channel=”Deferred

and made a BAT file but still these users will not change channels,

I have tried in an admin enabled CMD and as a admin no change,

What else can i do to get these users to the monthly channel?

O365 OST File and Archive Mailbox Questions

We are running Office 365 Online. I'm running into some major issues with a Shared Mailbox. Users are having issues sending as the shared mailbox. They are also running into issues viewing all email in the mailbox. I assume it's related to the size of the mailbox. This use to be a User Mailbox but was moved to Exchange Online and converted to a shared mailbox (so not to use an E3 license)

The mailbox is showing TotalItemSize=36.87GB and TotalDeletedItemSize=14.32GB. There is less than 6 months of mail in the mailbox so this is a very heavily utilized mailbox.

Question 1, Does the OST file that gets built include the TotalDeletedItemSize as synced?

Question 2, Does the Shared Mailbox consume space in the primary users OST file, potentially causing issues with their exising mailbox?

I have just enabled a policy to archive anything older than 60 days to the Archive mailbox

Question 3. Does the archive mailbox consume space in the existing users OST file?

Question 4; Is there any way to limit how much data is cached from the archive mailbox (not all the shared mailbox as a whole)

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Infopath 2013 and Office 365 issues

I have someone who is using Office 365 Outlook and when they go to submit an Infopath 2013 form that is supposed to mail out a copy of the form the email is blank on the receiving parts end.  This person is the only one that is having issues, as I was able to verify that the form is working correctly with the Office 2016 version of Outlook.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what could cause this problem.

excel 2013 right click - insert column doesn't work anymore (greyed out)

Hi

Haven't found an answer to this one yet:

As per yesterday, the right click functionality in Excel 2013 (prof. plus) doesn't work properly anymore. The Options "insert" and "delete" are constantly greyed out, no matter if it's an existing or a new workbook. My colleague actually has the same issue.

I tried to repair, disabled Add-ins, even made a complete new install.

The strange thing is: When going to the ribbon -> home -> cells, the insert/delete columns (or rows) function still works...

Any help would be highly appreciated!

Adding HTML tags to Word 2013

Hi, I am looking for a way to add meta tags (somehow!) to a doc in such that they are included in the output html file when I save as filtered HTML. For example I need to include this tag in my output <meta name="PageIdentifier" content="xyz123" />

I can add the tag myself in the filtered html file, but it would be cool to add in the Word doc which gets included in the html output.

Grateful for any ideas!

Mike

Problem with mouse jumping when resizing pictures in Publisher 2013

I wanted to design a poster, so thought I'd try Publisher. I inserted a number of pictures, but when I try and drag them to move them into the desired position, and also when I try to resize them, the mouse starts jumping across the screen. I don't believe the issue is with the mouse, as if I move the mouse without clicking the button to drag an item, it moves smoothly across the screen, and I have not noticed this happening in other applications.

Any suggestions?

Outlook 2013 (365 Home) Quick Delete "X" Button Missing

$

One of the features that I like about Outlook 2013 (365 version) is the quick delete "X" button that appears in the list of emails in the inbox when you hover over a particular email. For some reason, I no longer see the "X" when I either hover or select the email. Can you help me restore this functionality?

I may not have noticed it but I now have a new tool bar at the right edge of the screen which contains "respond", "Delete" "Follow Up" and "Move" icons; I don't recall seeing that toolbar before. It doesn't bother me but it may be a clue to why the X is missing from the email list.

Any thoughts as to how to restore the Delete function within the email list will be appreciated

Share Computer Activation

Hello

I have a question.

I know that at a time one user can be login on 5 PCs for office 365 ProPlus.

My question is when we enable Share Computer Activation, that time if license token will be store on user roaming profile or Network shared folder then other computers will be able to use this single license token. Means to say multiple computers will use same license token and office licensing service will assume one device license. Correct?

Favorites order won't save in Outlook 2013 RTM

Outlook 2013 RTM connected to Exchange 2007 on Win 8 x64.

When reordering my favorites, the order completely changes upon Outlook restart. I've narrowed the culprit to the Outbox, Sent Items, Drafts, and Deleted Items folders. When those aren't included in the favorites, the order is preserved on restart. Adding any of those and restarting Outlook causes all 4 to show up in favorites (even if adding just one) and they always are at the top, even when placed elsewhere. Moving them to a different position and restarting causes them to all pop up to the top again, sometimes randomly removing other folders from the favorites.

Big bug. Any ideas on how to fix?

Outlook - Manage Quick Steps freezes/crashes program

$

I have a user that reported when they were trying to send an email to junk their Outlook 2013 was freezing and becoming unresponsive. I connected and looked into the issue, and indeed clicking on any Quick Step item in the ribbon crashes the program and makes it unresponsive.

The only way around this is I was able to create a "new" Junk quick step and that one works fine. So I think what happened is somehow the folders the old/current Quick Steps were pointing to were disconnected, and the program now can't find them, or even let me get into the "Manage" Quick Steps menu without freezing. I can recreate all the old Quick Steps or make new ones if needed, but want to be able to get back into the "Manage" menu to delete out the old corrupted ones.

Suggestions on what I might do here? Was thinking to try a repair of Office, or run the OffCat Analyzer tool.

User is on Windows 10, Outlook 2013 x64.

Thanks, - Joel

Setting a default send from e-mail address

$

Here is my setup. I have an e-mail coming from my ISP that I added to my gmail so that I may get both my gmail and ISP e-mails in one inbox. What I would like to do is set up Outlook 2016 (the desktop app) to connect to the gmail servers (via IMAP) and also be able to send e-mails out the gmail account that look like they are from my ISP account from within outlook.

The only way that I can sort of get this working is changing the send from address (manually) but it requires me to do that on every new or replied e-mail account. Is there a way for you to set it to send out e-mail from a specific address every time? I want to be able to see all the e-mails that are in the sent items folder (which is why I want to use IMAP). The only way that would work for what I want to do is strictly using the gmail website or the gmail phone apps.
