Initially had Office 2007 installed and then installed Office 2013 - still the same issue.
Open an file using a network share with Excel 2013 (or 2007) takes a very long time. it will first say "downloading" then after a long wait it will say "opening".
Open the same file without using a share (C:\...) it says "opening" and it opens in a reasonable time frame. (does not do the downloading.)
Is there a way to force Excel (and other Office programs) from NOT doing that extra "downloading" process first to speed up the opening process?
The environment is Server 2012 R2 w/SSD drives, Office 2007 (mostly) with some Office 2013 with a branch office also using Server 2012 R2 and the files are using the DFS feature between the two offices.
I thought it might have something to do with OFV but it isn't installed then I found this statement: ""Office 2010 and Office 2007 are not affected because they include a new feature for opening files over the network that copies the complete file locally first and then scans the file by using the OFV so that the file reads do not include the network traffic." That is what I'm trying to avoid because it takes way too long to do that.
Any assistance would be appreciated - client is a little upset about this.
