Is it possible to convert SmartArt to objects in PowerPoint preserving animation?

I know this is not possible just by clicking something in the application however I'm sure it must be a way to achieve this.

I have over 20 presentation with probably up to 60 SmartArts each. I need to convert them to objects but the main issue here is that they already have animations which I need to preserve.

Tried to build a macro to duplicate the SmartArt, copy animation for all objects and then re-aply the animations to the converted objects but since SmartArt behaves differently from regular shapes, I have founded no way to do it.

I know there's a PowerPoint VBA guru out there; please enlighten me with your wisdom. I do not have the time to rebuild slide by slide all presentations.

Please help!
