I have a client who runs 4 PCs each with Access 2003 on them. They all use a split database which lives in a shared folder on one of the machines. This machine is now failing due to lack of maintenance and I need to move the database. I moved the back end DB to another machine and relinked the front end DBs to it without problems, but then I was told they used the DB for a mail merge, using the front end DB queries. As many of you know, this is quite straightforward as you use the Connect To New Data Source Wizard to create the odc file used for the merge.
When I ran the Connect to New Data Source wizard on the new machine, it seemed to go fine until the very last stage where I specified the location of the new .odc file for the merge. I got an ODBC error (can't remember the exact wording, something like ODBC Access Driver) saying that there was no link to a file location, namely the network share on the failing computer. I tried using the ODBC Data Sources applet in Control Panel>Administrative Tools, but this didn't change things.
So, the question is, how do I create a new .odc file and secondly, I would rather run the DB from a NAS device as frankly the other PCs are none to chirpy either. Can this be done?
