Office 2013 and Windows Thin PC

I've got a couple Windows Thin PC that i'm testing Office 2013 on.  Office 2013 seems incredibly unstable when installed locally on these machines.  Word and Powerpoint crash frequently when opening existing documents.  Almost every document that we open has been created in an older version of Word (2003,2007 or 2010).  But when I create a new document it seems to work pretty well.
