Office 365 Home Premium Excel cut-insert-undo issue

I have just started using Excel in a University subscription of Office 365 Home Premium, installed on a new laptop without any previous Microsoft Office installation.

I am experiencing significant issues with cutting and inserting cells and using the undo function.

For example, a simple 2Rx2C cut and insert before a row [cut, insert cut cells] will work, as it will if I repeat using a different selection. However if I try to undo the "insert cut cells" action it does not work.  If I then attempt another"cut, insert cut cells" nothing happens. 

I can even open another spreadsheet and the "cut, insert cells" process will not work.

Any ideas on what might be happening here?
