Outlook 2013 - Creates zero-byte messages in Outbox

Hi

I use my Gmail account in Outlook 2013 via IMAP protocol. This is on Windows 7. 

When reading a message in my inbox, sometimes I hover the mouse over someone's picture in the People Pane at the bottom of the message and click on the dark envelope icon to send him or her a separate email message. At that point the new message window pops up, and a 0-byte message appears in my outbox. If I cancel the message (with or without typing anything in it, with or without saving it) the 0-byte item continues to reside in my outbox indefinitely until I manually delete it. I often end up with several of these 0-byte messages in my outbox.

Please help. This gives Outlook 2013 the look and feel of an unfinished product.
